What if you want to wrap your green gift in something, but do not want to go out and purchase a brand new gift bag, or a roll of wrapping paper? Maybe your green gift is oddly sized? Simply by searching your home you could find the perfect gift wrap solution for your green gift.
Between Christmas, Birthdays, Mother and Father’s Day, to Anniversaries, wedding gifts, new jobs, new homes, and all of the gifts in-between, gift giving can seem like a full time job, and can get pretty costly, not to mention the waste it costs the earth. By re-using everyday items from your home to wrap your gifts, you can save money, and waste.
So what everyday items can you use to wrap your green gift? Here are just a few:
1.Scarves- Use a scarf to wrap most anything. Using a scarf can be a beautiful solution to oddly shaped gifts. You can also use a bandana, handkerchief, or a cloth napkin for even smaller gifts. If you happen to have some flowers in your backyard, adding a simply bouquet to the top can add a bit of adornment.
2.Maps – Wrapping your gift with a map will add a bit of interest, even before the gift is open. Many of us have left over maps from trips or may have out-of-date maps that we have hidden away in a closet, or garage, that will work perfectly as wrapping paper. If your gift recipient is male, or is a small child, a map can offer a masculine and/or colorful kid friendly gift wrap solution.
3.Newspaper – An oldie but goodie is using newspaper for gift wrap. Most of us have stacks sitting, waiting in our recycle bins. Why not recycle them yourself? Tip: Iron the newspaper on low heat to prevent smudging, and getting ink on your fingers.
4.Wallpaper – Have leftovers? By using wallpaper, not only will you add texture and pattern to your gift wrap, but you will make use of what otherwise might be a permanent fixture in your garage or storage.
5.Brown Paper Bags – Another favorite is the brown paper bag. If you choose paper instead of plastic you could have enough wrapping paper for the entire year! Because the kraft brown paper is so versatile, colorful ribbon, yarn, tags, buttons, and other imaginative adornments will stand out, and make a beautiful presentation. If you have some left over paint, you can use your brown bag wrapping paper as a canvas for your gift wrap artwork!
Other ideas include, dish towels, socks (the clean ones), shirts, aluminum foil, wax paper, and of course any wrapping paper, bags, and tissue left over from gifts you have received. Decorating with buttons, costume jewelry, bakers twine, shredded fabrics, flowers, and any other small objects around your home can also add a beautiful and unique quality to your gift.
By doing a search around your home, and using your imagination, you may never have to buy gift wrap ever again. You can save money, save the earth, and possibly even rid yourself of some clutter, making you a gift wrap super hero – how cool is that?
